Total bastardization of both book and movie canon - time period snatched from the book (approximately the '30s/'40s) and actual characters plucked right from the movie. (Yes, this movie. I have no shame when it comes to ruining childhood memories.) Title's stolen from another Ray Bradbury story.

This is gorgeous. I think it really captures something of the tone of the book, how delicate and rich all the scenes were. I never thought of them going off to war, but this works nicely. I'm glad that you had Pipkin come back.

Oh, it is so good that someone has actually taken the time to write up a fic--and a most impressive one at that--for such a well liked book that most people don't bother with in considering over. This was beautifully written. Texted like Stephen King, but felt more like Virginia Woolf or Lewis Carrol. :)
