tv shows with all the layers

I was looking for something to watch with my breakfast and decided to finally give 'Glow' a try. If you're not familiar, this is a Netflix original series loosely based on the story of a women's wrestling group in the 80s ( Read more... )

I tried watching Glow but I couldn't get into it. Looking at Netflix I only made it halfway through episode 4. I just really couldn't stand the director guy at all. I remember really liking the.... black? girl. I think she was black. She was bad ass as fuck tho.

Should I try again?

I find Marc Maron to be kind of grating too. But at least he is an asshole in the show so it's not like we're supposed to think he isn't? LOL. I think the next few episodes are what did it for me - they move the girls into a hotel together and there is a lot more bonding between the women, which is what got me hooked, seeing some quality female friendships forming.

I adore shows that have layers to them! I think I have a couple more to check out now.

It's always such a pleasant surprise to find smart, original shows.

I watched most of the first season of Glow and just wasn't into it. I liked the characters but the plot had me like, lmfao really? and the lead character was consistently getting on my last nerve. I can see why people enjoy the show though.

I was adding it to my TV Time app and found out that apparently GLOW was a real thing in the 80s? I mean, obviously the relationships and what not are fictionalized, but there was a Women Wrestling tv show?

But, yeah, I get that Alison Brie's character can be a bit much. I really like her as an actress though so I keep watching. Plus I just realized the "Bash" is "Piz" from Veronica Mars and I always liked his face LOL.

my partner and I are actually big wrestling fans, so we loved "Glow". it's totally "based on a true story" -- in that very little of it really recounts what actually happened. but the show is both fun and, as you said, pretty deep. I think what of history hey sacrificed, they recovered it in depth and value.

I'm sooooooo behind on "The Good Place". D:

I've never seen "Living with Yourself". I'll look into it....

I just found that out, about it being loosely based on a thing that happened. But I love where the show is going and how they are using the 80s setting to look at larger issues. And I am really enjoying the female relationships so far.

Also I was dying when Debbie went to the wrestling match and realized it was all a soap opera because that is exactly what happened to me when I went to a WWE match for college (yes, best class ever, they took me to a WWE show...Amerian Studies)

You gotta get caught up on Good Place before the series finale! Spoilers might start flying because the internet sucks.

yeah, as a wrestling fan who hung out with people from all walks of life, I explained the fandom to women and non-fan males as "an entertaining soap opera for men". XD
