IMHO, I disagree with you about the Game of Thrones petition.

The reason the petition was created wasn't to demand the season to be rewritten/refilmed, because the creator of said petition and most rational individuals who have signed it know that it is impossible to do because of how expensive it is. It is simply for fans to voice their disappointment and disapproval of the final season and of the showrunners in general. I can understand the confusion though, and it might not have been the best way of going about it since it was spur of the moment after the second to last episode that spawned the creation of the petition, but it has gained a lot of attention so that message initially might have been lost. It wasn't meant to disrespect the actors and the crew for their immense hard work, because that was not the complaints people were making. It was simply to say, how, after all this the final season was shit. That's it.

I do think fan entitlement is a problem in many aspects in the general fandom overall, but I don't think this is one of those instances. Realistically, nobody is expecting them to remake the final season. It's impossible. Fans are just trying to get a collective way to spread their disappointment and anger about the eighth season. Again, perhaps it wasn't the best way to do that, but as I mentioned it has created a conversation surrounding the disappointment of fans.

I do think it should be edited and rephrased though, at least to give clarification that this isn't really about remaking the final season. But as a whole, I don't have a problem with the petition as it is.

Just my two cents on the matter.

I felt like the bajillion tweets, blog posts, articles, reddit threads, and other social media posts got the point across pretty well that many many people were not happy.

A petition is a demand for action, it is about gathering signatures to make something happen, so yeah, I don't think it was the best platform for such expression. I mean, also, I think of petitions being used for important things, like changing the way the government works or a law or a court decision etc. But that's another rant.

Is this the petition? Because, yeah, it just says to demand a re-write.

Nothing deep going on there. I found an interview with the petition creator a few clicks further where he backpedals and says the whole "well of course they can't remake it" but it doesn't say anything beyond a sentence in the petition itself. It just comes off as entitlement of MY SHOW and make it MY WAY.

And now he has all this attention so, I dunno, he should redirect it to something more positive. I found a few fans using the conversation to fundraise for a charity in Emilia Clarke's name. That I can support.
