I felt like the bajillion tweets, blog posts, articles, reddit threads, and other social media posts got the point across pretty well that many many people were not happy
( ... )
I'm not a GOT viewer so I tried to avoid as much discussion as I could because I wasn't interested, but didn't Maisie Williams basically say the same thing about it being an insult to everyone who has worked hard on it? Which I totally agree with. If the intention was to express dissatisfaction with no actual expectation of refilming, maybe an open letter format that people could add their name to would have been better?
Yeah, perhaps an open letter would be good, though everyone is on social media already and has their own platform, just make a hashtag.
The problem is that people just get mean. If I thought someone could write an even-handed letter saying that we were disappointed and here is why, we wish you hadn't done this or something like that. But so many things devolve into name calling and just being cruel. And what does that do for anyone?
I've noticed this with so many shows. The writers make a choice, people bitch, the show plot takes a nose dive as they try and please fans. Like, tell your story. If someone doesn't like, they don't like it. Not a big deal. There's a reason I gave up on GOT ('bad pussy', removing female characters for male ones a la Adrienne, the rape scenes, the porn, etc) but it's still not my show. I didn't like it so I stopped. Easy as that. Now, I 100% agree with people pointing out a lack of diversity, but that's not the issue in most of these cases. It's usually entitlement as you said, or misogynistic, as with the Star Wars bitching.

Except for Arya and Gendry, but you aren't a fan so you don't care about that. :)
