I think men in society are taught that they don't have to look good, that their clothes/hair/etc. don't really matter.
Yeah, and it's really sad that this is considered normal in our society. And it's also a double standard and backwards mentality that has been ingrained into our minds regarding men and fashion/appearance. And it's always the kind of pressure about the kind of masculinity that needs to be presented in society. Like, a guy needs to look a certain way to be considered a True Man, but if a guy cares too much about fashion (or seen that he even puts effort into it more than usual) he might be labeled too feminine and his masculinity will be placed into question. Men are expected to try a little but not too much to not be seen in particular way by society, and that is very harmful

We focus so much on gender roles and expectations for women, but there are just as many issues for men in our society, they just seem to swing the other way. - So true! Some of the only times that a guy's appearance is commented on is by women amongst other women, i.e. if their new boyfriend is cute or nah.
I am totally about this. Outward self care has such possibilities to change your insides too.
I used to have no hair style and wear xl clothes in high school and early college and it was so blah and nothing. Now I take such pride in showing myself off and feeling good about how I look.
