I can't tell you how many times I've wanted to say that "video games" line to a parent who insists on stopping their child from reading the book they picked out and WANT to read. *sigh*

I agree. Let the child read what they want. Enjoying a book will keep them reading.

I never understood the concept of "reading levels" on books. It's interesting how there are some books we were forced to read in school that were probably way too advanced or complicated (and tbh too overrated) and yet we were told to not read beyond or under our reading level or restricted to read other books due to their content. I mean, I read certain books in junior high that were probably deemed inappropriate, but I enjoyed them and were honestly quite formative to me.

Don't limit the books that your kid wants to read. Be aware of what they're reading and have a discussion about it, but don't outright ban them or punish them for reading it.
