there's a slight duality in my thoughts
it's exacerbated by lack of sleep
but sometimes i feel like i'm observing the world with two sets of eyes,
or two different processing speeds;
the first set sees, accepts, and responds naturally, without thought- instinctive?
the second set is more like peripheral vision- lines, angles, symmetry, color

a group of kindergartners tripped, stumbled and waltzed onto the bus;
their presence was like magic
all the tired and indifferent passengers brightened
and fell over themselves giving up their seats for the children
the bus driver's suddenly cheerful voice sounded over the intercom
and the tiny old lady slumped onto my shoulder
and began to snore
