First day of finals out of the way!!!! YAY!!!! Only had 1 final today. Had AP College English first period today. It went alright I think. It took a long time. I mean it wasn’t a long test, and the questions weren’t that hard, it was just making sure I comprehended the questions to the best of my ability that took the most time. I disagree with some of the basic points of your argument. Notably, in what way does improving the "team mindset" affect individual successes? The fact is, Speech Team is composed of many individual performances -- the Speech Teamers are on the team because they want to win. They owe no obligation to the team, and thus the amount of commitment they are willing to put in is entirely up to them. You're right when you say that people would be benefiting the team by stepping up, but they have no duty to do so.

And unfortunately, I think that many of the team members would not come back if the coaching and meeting requirements were stepped up next year. Speech Team is an activity, not a varsity sport. We enjoy being on the team, but often we have many other conflicts, many of which are more important to us. It seems clear to me that Coach Cheney is intent on controlling the lives of her forensics members similar to the way a football coach controls his players. For instance, as far as the fact within that the she expected members to declare conflicts for all tournaments at the very beginning of the year, an unreasonable request. I've talked to many petrified speech team members preparing to talk to your mom about not attending a tournament, and it seems that participants should be allowed a little more leeway insofar as attending tournaments.

I also think that the suggested Three Strikes Policy is absolutely fatuous and draconian. The rules you listed are so regularly violated even now that the ranks of the team would be depleted, and even our best members would be, by rule, forced to leave.

I understand that you want to win. However, consistent victory would require a major sacrifice that I don't think any of us are actually ready to make. Right now, Speech Team is an enjoyable, social, and lax experience. An increase in the Speech workload would turn the OPRF Team into exactly what we don't want it to become: a Nazi camp, regardless of how successful the team is.

whomever you are, you are a coward. Disagreeing with me is one thing, but calling it NAZI CAMP and posting without identity is quite another.
