Week Long One Year Anniversary
Somehow
Even though they had known each other for what felt like a thousand years, he knew they hadn’t, but it often felt like it had been longer since they had gone through so much history together. After such a long past together, it was only natural for him to think that the Italian man had always been part of his life, whether as friend, ally or enemy, but it had only been one year, three hundred and sixty-five days, that they had been more than enemies, greater than allies and a step above friends; they were now a couple.
The word still felt funny on his lips and every time he said it, it took him aback, but that’s what they were now. Feliciano had always been forward with his feelings and had told him countless of times that he liked him and that he enjoyed spending time with him, but last year, three hundred and sixty-five days ago, while the other man had been visiting him, they had stopped for lunch and had been enjoying a slice of pizza in a park when Feliciano had taken his much bigger hand in his own smaller one and then he had looked at him.
Really looked at him. Looked at him in the way that only Feliciano was able to look. He had been on the receiving end of that look twice before and they had been followed by words that had changed him forever. This case hadn’t been any different.
“I love you.” He had told him simply. Ludwig had brushed it off as nothing, as just another one of Italy’s affectionate sayings, but then he had squeezed Germany’s hand before giving him a quick kiss on the cheek.
“No, I really love you, always have.” He had been startled by the confession and he hadn’t responded immediately. Feliciano had understood that about him and had left it at that. It had been later that evening, while they had been simply sitting on the couch in his living room, after supper, that he had given his simple and direct answer.
“I feel the same way.” Italy had smiled brightly at him before snuggling up close. It had been nice to just be together like that.
To be honest, he had worried at first that this new type of relationship would change the way they would act towards each other, but Italy took it well, acting the same as always. It was basically just him who had put too much thought into it, for nothing much really changed. It was safe to say that Feliciano was the one who lead the relationship from proposing outings and initiating anything remotely romantic; not that he didn’t have his moments every now and then.
It was a year now, three hundred and sixty-five days since his life had taken on a different twist and he could honestly say that there was never a dull moment in his life. Now, whether or not he enjoyed all of those moments was an entirely different matter all together. He was just glad that they had created stronger aspirin since the forties.
But he had to admit, despite what everyone liked to think and say, he enjoyed the new change, he liked Feliciano’s warmth next to him when they sat together, liked the feel of the shorter man’s soft lips against his own, he just liked the way everything was now. For some strange and absurd reason, somehow, it just worked now and he was okay with it.
OWARI
Reviews, no matter how short, even if they are anonymous, mean a lot to me and let me know that my writing brings emotions to you readers out there. I see you, the ones who only favourite, the ones who add me to alert, don’t think I don’t. Even if it’s just an exclamation point, it warms my heart.
