The Saturn clicked over to 109,000 miles on Saturday. It has been a very faithful car and runs rather well, but it has no air conditioning and the fan that moves the air around is slowing dying. That makes any trip made in weather warmer than oh, say 75 degrees, pretty darn uncomfortable

Lots of my friends are getting Subarooz. However my 2000 golf is still (knockknock) going strong at 110k. Usually these folks are also considering the 3.

I totally envy you and your VW! Excellent German engineering. One of my post-college roommates had a Rabbit and there was *nothing* that could kill that car. :-)

One downside is that the interior on VWs degrades. Perhaps it is the texas sun, but all the interior plastic rots and degrades, the seats are kinda cheap, etc. Of all the places to cut corners to keep the price down, there could be much worse.

The price on the new rabbit is still as low as when I bought mine (the absolute base model). I'd buy another if I needed to.

I have a Golf too (97). I'm surprised by how much I like it - paid $2,700 last year and did $2,000 worth of maintenance. No signs of impending death at 135k...
