They rode against the railroads and they rode against the banks

I started thinking about this after watching a movie about Jesse James. In the highly romanticized account, all of the railroad and bank heists perpetrated by the James-Younger gang are an act of revenge against the President of the Rock Northern Railroad.

The thought I had was... how would one go about doing that now. Let's say, for example, that someone in your family died of cancer caused by some company dumping chemicals in your drinking water. The class action suit came and went and you were like, "Eff this, I'm taking them down." The idea would not be to bankrupt the company, or bomb the corporate headquarters or anything like that. You just wanted to take them for a whole bunch of money, and unlike James, you didn't want them to know it was you.

How would you possibly go about doing so?

Companies, by and large, do not keep huge vaults filled with sacks of cash anymore. You couldn't rob the payroll now that it's all checks and direct deposits. You could rob a bank that they do business with, but you're not necessarily robbing from them exclusively, and their money is insured. In fact, from what I understand, most of their money is invested in other companies.

Ideas? One of the few things I could come up with would be some kind of computer fraud where you would siphon money from corporate accounts into your own. That seems like the sort of thing that's easily traceable, though. The other thought I had was that it would be a much easier job for an insider.

Think about this for a bit and drop me a comment.
