Be A Man, Man

I'm extremely bored and that nap I took earlier is disallowing me to go to sleep.

School tomorrow...

So I think I will write about why I think Mulan is such an inspirational heroine (at least in the fictional world of Disney).

First of all, she's strong. Not because she was in the Imperial Army but because she joined the army. And when you join the army, it's not for fun. It's for reasons like, serving your country, fighting for what you think is right and using your life to save many more.

She joined the army for her father. Not because she was in love with Shang and wanted to get closer to him. Not because she got caught in a predicament that the only option is to join the army. Not because she's cursed or somebody forced her to. She decided this all on her own, knowing full well, she's sacrificing her life as a daughter, as a woman and as a human being.

For her father.

I think it's the reason why she disguises herself as man, enters a place where being found as a woman would result in death and going to war, that makes her so brave and incredible. She didn't do it for fame, or because she wanted to kill the enemy. She just... wanted to save her father.

And she didn't give up completely. She did, for a moment. She gave up being the "perfect daughter". She gave up when they found out she was a woman. But she proved them all wrong by getting back up and fighting.

How many times did she almost die? She almost died when facing Shan-Yu on the mountain, almost died saving Shang, almost died when Shang almost killed her, almost died when Shan-Yu wanted to kill her and thought she would die when the Emperor was "disappointed".

I just love the fact that she didn't do everything she did because she was forced to, or to get a man, or because she was helpless and just randomly unfortunately had to. But she chose. Everything she does, she chose to do it. I don't believe there is a true moment in the whole movie, where she doesn't only have one option. Yet she chooses the one - maybe even the right one.

Yes, yes, yes. This is a cartoon. But it's the first movie I've ever seen in theatres. The one that gets me emotional every time. And the one that I think has a really good role model. Sometimes I'm sad when they don't include Mulan as one of the Disney Princesses but then again... she's not a princess.

She's a warrior.

And...

Oh yeah.. and...

LMAO!!

Also, she cut off all her hair!! A girl's gotta have her hair!
