Long time no see LiveJournal! Ok, so I have to take a theater class as part of the humanities course. I have to write a play. And I have no idea if I'm even good at it or what. So if anyone cares to offer any critique or help that would be so grand :D
For now, I just have to write the first scene. So here we go
_____________________
Set in the late 90’s, it’s night time by a small bridge in the country side. The full moons’ light dances and sparkles over the water’s surface as if moving with a song. Autumn is standing on the side rail of a bridge looking over into the water after a night of a drug fueled haze.
Act 1 : Scene 1
AUTUMN: (to self) Do I dare? Do I fall here and calm the troubles? I don’t want to. I do want to. It seems deep, dark, quiet and calm. Almost … inviting. The troubles of the world would be stifled from down there.
Autumn sighs and takes a step backwards back down on the bridge, presses her back onto the pillar and slides down until she is sitting down on the road, and contemplates her next move, her exhaustion from the day’s events catch up to her and she passes out.
Several hours later, Jared drives across the bridge on his moped, finding her where she passed out a few hours ago.
JARED: (Cautiously nudging Autumn) Hello? Are you ok miss? … Hey, do I know you? You seem familiar? Are you ok?
Though blurred vision, Autumn slowly comes awake, not yet recalling the night before.
After a long pause and looking startled at him, she recognizes him and his deep hazel eyes and dark brown hair. She thinks to herself, that she must look like quite a mess if he can’t even recognize her. And he doesn’t, she looks as if she’s been to hell and back with her messed hair, she’s much thinner and the light in her eyes have left a long time ago.
AUTUMN: No, I mean yes, I’m fine. I should get home now; I’ve been out for a long while.
JARED: Do you need help getting home? I could…
AUTUMN: No thanks I can walk from here. (She pauses for a moment, as if to remember through her haze which way is the right way home)
JARED: Nonsense, (he reaches out a hand toward her) let me give you a ride home. And maybe you can tell me what a pretty lady is doing sleeping on a bridge so early in the morning. You look like you could use someone to talk to.
AUTUMN: (hesitates, and looks around as if to think of some reason, any reason not to open up to this stranger, no matter how charming he may be. Autumn sighs and starts to walk away)
As Jared watches her walk away, it dawns on him where he knows her from, how could he forget. Perhaps it was how different she looked
JARED: Autumn! I remember now, remember a few summers ago on the docks? It’s me, Jared!
Autumn stops, she was hoping that he would recognize her. Her back is still turned toward him so she smiles, but it’s not a smile that last, soon fading back to her pensive expression.
JARED: If you won’t let me give you a ride into town, can I at least see you later? It’s been a while and I’d love to catch up with you. How have you been?
AUTUMN: How have I been? (her thoughts drift to the night before, staring into the waters) It’d be best if you went on and didn’t worry about how I’ve been Jared.
JARED: What? No, I really mean that, I’d like to buy you a mocha cappuccino; I remember those are you favorite.
AUTUMN: Really Jared, I appreciate the offer, I do. It’s the nicest thing I’ve heard in a while. (Tears begin to form in her eyes) But really, I’ve got to go. I can’t, I’m sorry.
Not saying another word, Autumn walks away in a hurry. Jared isn’t sure what to make of the situation, but there isn’t anything more he can do. He drives off in the opposite direction. His thoughts keep drifting to her, and that summer at the docks.
