The other day I took Em to one of our many thrift stores in hopes to buy her some board games. She has become addicted to the Disney Channel, lately. Every day I get home from work her little nose is practically glued to the t.v. which I really dislike. So anyway we are at the thrift store, found some puzzles. The only board games were for older kids. I decided to check out the books and found some college text books! I was super excited because I have had all kinds of math, biology and physics books on my Amazon wishlist for almost 2 years in hopes that eventually I would fork over the 60 bucks to buy at least one... So I asked a lady who worked there how much they cost. Paperbacks $0.50, hard covers $1. So I got a relatively new College Algebra book for $1 and a biology book for $0.50! What a steal man!
When I first opened the math book after we got home I was lost on page 1. What the hell is an integer? What's the difference between an integer and a real number... etc So I almost immediately closed the book and moved onto the biology book. I realized then why my high school science teachers practically always had us skip the first chapter. Basically it covers the definitions of hypotheses, experiments, etc which I know are important to know, but should have been covered in like 4th grade...
But nevertheless I am reading it. I also reopened the algebra book and started working on the problems. I can say so far I am enjoying the math more than the science. When I was at work, yesterday, pretty much all I could think about is going home and working on that dang math book. The weirdest part is in high school and pretty much my whole life I've always hated math. Now it's like my new best friend. I know that my brain is bored with the job I have. I know that it is missing being challenged. I've decided I should definitely AT LEAST take a math class within the next few months.
In other news, I requested a copy of my credit report a couple weeks ago. What I found came to no surprise except a strange address I supposedly once lived at. Also the fact that although I was doing a good job paying my Capital One debt off, it didn't show up. All it said was the debt was purchased by a debt collector. But why didn't the debt collector post anything? Kind of annoyed about that.... But anyway, I was also reminded of my student loan piece of junk so I looked it up online, got the account number, and address to send payments. At least they have all my payments up to date!
As far as Em's t.v. problem, I will have to continue to work on that. One positive thing is when I tell her to turn it off and start on her homework she does it right away. Just need a fun replacement for t.v. The puzzles are still a bit challenging for her and definitely not something she's willing to do without my help.
