(no subject)
So last night around 11:20-11:25 I went out on the porch of my new house that I just moved into on sunday to smoke a cig. I'm sitting there and I see 3 guys walking down the street kinda far away. I don't think anything of it. So they walk up to the driveway of the house directly across from me..then there were cop sirens in the distance and they walked back down to the corner. I thought that was strange. As soon as the sirens faded out in the distance they walked back to the house, walked up the driveway, and next thing I knew there were flashlights inside the house. So I ran inside and yelled to my roommate upstairs, "Rachel I think there are people breaking into the house across the street from us" and she's like, "CALL THE COPS". So I went back outside just to make sure I was right 'cause I didn't want to call if I was wrong. So I went back out and I saw one of the guys walking down the street, but I could still see 2 guys with flashlights in the house. So I called and reported it but by the time the cops got here the guys were gone. Still though 7 cop cars showed up and one of them had a dog with them. They assumed the guys were still inside the house 'cause they were yelling, "YOU ARE UNDER ARREST. WE HAVE A CANINE. WE WILL LET HIM LOOSE. YOU ARE UNDER ARREST!" It must have just been a precautionary, but it was still scary as shit. I guess they ransacked the place but it didn't look like they had taken anything. It's this nice lesbian couple that lives there. One of the women was supposed to move in this morning and the other had been at the house and left around 11 to go to a friends house. So the scary part is they were probably watching her waiting for her to leave.
I had to talk to a bunch of cops and give descriptions and exactly what I saw and what I did and the time frame for everything.
So then this morning my landlord comes by to get my story 'cause he lives right behind them but hadn't heard anything. He said that he drove by her house on his way home around 11:15 and he had seen the 3 guys. He described them exactly to me so I knew he wasn't bullshitting me. He said that at the time they were walking away from the house and he asked me if their side light was on when I was outside smoking. He didn't notice it when he drove by but Erin (one of the girls who lives there) said she had left it on. When I was outside there were absolutely no lights on in or around that house. So what my landlord must have seen was the guys walking away from the house after they had broken the light, probably waiting to see if anyone had heard them, and then when I was outside they were walking back to the house.
They must not have seen me because there is a big bush in front of our porch. But the cops said I must have spooked them because they didn't take anything. They must have at least heard me at some point because our front door is really loud so when I went out there for a second time and saw the one guy walking away from the house he probably heard me and warned is partners in crime.
It was just really scary especially since I JUST moved in 3 days ago. I knew I lived in a ghetto area but not that bad. The cops said that it's relatively uncommon for that to happen in this area so that set my mind at ease a little bit. Still. It's scary as shit to think about.
