I learned a new acronym last week (the French have one for everything) - PAI, or 'produits agroalimentaires intermédiaires' - which roughly translates as 'ingredients'. I was at a trade fair wholly devoted to them, you see. From cubes of ham to frozen duck livers, they had it all. Our stand was sadly lacking in, errr, anything at all, really. I just sat there for the day eating chocolate-chip cookies and trying to be invisible.
I'm back in the office today, procrastinating furiously. I just can't summon the will to cold-call my list of unyielding French switchboard women (for they are inevitably, 99% of the time, female). Watched Transamerica last night. It was great. Who'd have thought Felicity Huffman could had such talent when freed from the constraints of a Desperate Housewives script. I find the writing on that show unutterably smug. Anyway, yeah, Transamerica was great. I had watched Crash the night before, so I needed something a bit more feelgood last night.
It's freezing here at the moment. I've stopped complaining about the malfunctioning heating in my bedroom. They give me a reduction on the rent anyway.
I've tried to provoke a backlash on the Irish Times web forum to unseat its resident bigot. I realise that I should just rise above his hackneyed, racist bile, but he just really gets my goat. I fantasise about stabbing him repeatedly. Fucking arsehole. His handle is Eddie the Aggravator, which says it all.
Anyway... Was at the Paddy's Day bash at the embassy the other night. I'm told that there were more 'young people' than in previous years at it. All the Irish College residents were invited, which I don't really understand - one of them threatened to piss into the garden from the first-floor balcony, while a group of them did kerrrrazzzy dancing in the reception room towards the end of the night. Ugh.
Speaking of the Irish College, there are angry notices posted up everywhere demanding that the people who removed the giant glass ball (it's a piece of art, if you like) from the ground-floor lobby and placed it in the second-floor kitchen make themselves known to the management. Hilarious. I expect another meeting of management vs 'student residents' will be convened to get to the bottom of it.
