It's quiet in the office so I'm taking the opportunity to post. As ever, life is relatively uneventful. I went for dinner with a friend from the Irish College in Paris last night. We went to Tante Zoë for the early bird menu. It was quite good. I had:

* Starter of Calamari - good batter, firm, not too rubbery but not bursting with taste, either;
* Steak - also good, relatively tender, nice garlic/chilli butter sauce, served with decent fried potatoes, very good red cabbage and slightly too-oily mange tout/green beans;
*Mud pie - overly chilled but delicious, topped with nuts, chocolate and fresh cream, and with the hardest biscuit base I've ever come across

Coffee was also included in the price, so I had a bland, inoffensive espresso to finish. Espressos should be tiny and VERY bitter and strong. This was none of the aforementioned. I'd give the whole meal three-and-a-half stars. The food lacked the imagination and intense flavours you get in, say, the Market Bar, but it was very acceptable nonetheless. Well done stesallthat on the recommendation!

Apart from food, I know I keep banging on about Prince, but I've been listening to Erotic City a lot lately and am bowled over by it. There's just so much going on in what is actually a fairly short track; the layering of different elements is pure quality, the keyboard riff is "simple but enticing" (to quote the song's Wikipedia entry) and even the chipmunkesque speeding-up of Prince's voice doesn't seem cheesy. Superb.

I graduated on Tuesday of last week. Had a lovely day, including a nice lunch (Aqua in Howth - lovely) and a few too many drinks with the family in the evening. DCU printed my name incorrectly on my degree certificate so I think I'll demand a new one. They omitted the síne fada on my name (it should be Seán and not Sean) and also inserted a gap between Mc and Dermot in my second name where there should be none. Incompetents! Bah!

Lemme see, what else... I'm procrastinating over what to do about accommodation in Paris for January. I just can't be bothered with the effort that it entails, but I'll have to sooner or later. Must email the various contacts in France that I've made through friends and work very soon.

I can't wait to see Casino Royale, so much so that I think I'll get tickets for tomorrow or Friday.
