A foolish wager

My father made a bet yesterday. It concerns our embattled Taoiseach. If Bertram lasts more than a month in office, my father must buy his friend a bottle of Bushmills whiskey. Bushmills is quite a decent tipple as whiskies go, but it's hardly the nectar of the gods.

If the Taoiseach is ousted or resigns within the month, my father's friend (who is a distinctly shrewd operator) must buy him a bottle of Midleton Very Rare. Midleton is a truly fantastic drink, equal to fine cognac in my opinion. It is honeyed and extremely smooth. Other Irish whiskies are mere toilet water by comparison.

I think the friend's money is safe.
