Love's Place in This World

Sooo I've decided that I'm either going to work in American inner-cities or internationally in a third world country. The two places are a lot different but a lot alike as well, so I think whatever major I'm moving toward in school will prepare me for either field. I've been thinking a lot about becoming a teacher. I always said I'd never be a teacher, but after a prayer meeting some friends and I had for the inner-cities, teaching has just been on my heart. The poor schools in the city are the places that need good, committed teachers. So many teachers go in to get their experience and leave as soon as they can. They dont care about the school, they dont care about the kids. I remember when I was in the Detroit school system for elementary school. The teachers that left a lasting impression were ones I later found out to be followers of Christ; not to say that people who aren't Christians don't care about the kids, but there is a noticeable difference in Jesus lovers. I always think of the verse in 1 John that says, "We love because He first loved us." Because the love of God is so much more than any person's love, followers of Jesus experience this unconditional love and are never the same; they are not satisfied by surface level love anymore.. and in turn, Christ followers love in a different way than before they experienced God's love. It's a beautiful thing.

So whichever career pathway I decide to take, I'll be able to love people who need to be loved. People long for love. People need love. People need to be directed to God's eternal, unchanging love; there's nothing better than that.
