Actually, a lot of the boys here aren't that big. Often, they're kinda short. But they're wiry and resilient.
I loved Steve Martin's book. "The Pleasure of My Company." I love his writing. His metaphors are so unusual, like the comparrison with soy and talc. And his references to stuff like Xeno's turtle. Intellectually satisfying and bizarre at the same time. And when he says, "Clarissa, you're a desirable woman. Just sit quietly and you will resurect." And then he doesn't know if he said it or thought it. It's beautiful. There's something very deceptively simple about it that moves me. Ok, I feel like a book jacket now. Let's move on...
Have you read "Pure Drivel?" It's a collection of his short stories and essays. Really funny. Ok, now let's move on...
I didn't get to watch the Academy Awards, but I know the results. On a fundamental level, I'm grateful that Lord of the Rings won. I loved the films, and I'm glad they got the recognition I think they deserved. But there is a part of me that feels bad for the other films. There were a lot of really good movies that were sorta snubbed just because LOTR had to be honored. But I suppose that's kinda what they mean when they talk about the politics of the business.
Do I know homestar? I practically live with the guy...Actually, my best friend does this homestar impression, and it's pretty good. He sounds just like him. I haven't read "Pure Drivel", but I was reading about it when I was thinking of first getting his last one. Although I heard that "Shopgirl" was a bit twisted, though that came from my highly conservative sister, so I don't know how much truth there is in that. I first got turned on to reading some of his schtuff after watching LA Story again. That movie is just fantastic, and the images he puts in it...I just thought it was a brilliantly made movie, but more along the lines of Woody Allen movies. Yeah, they're funny, but it takes a certain type of people to really appreciate the humor/ and the story, at the same time. I know a lot of folks don't like Woody Allen, I think he's hilarious...hmm..I should go rent one of his movies this weekend. So you're back into the swing of things this week I take it?
