Musical Bliss

My new cd player arrived on Monday, a replacement for the nice one that was stolen back in March.

I got home and plugged it in before I even ate dinner (and I had been lifting weights, so I was really hungry). I popped in Rachmaninov's All-Night Vigil and oh. Bliss.

Last night, I listened to a cd of miscellaneous MP3 backup that I hadn't heard in a long time, while also moving other backed-up MP3s from cds onto my external hard drive. I, ummm, have a lot of music. I don't want to think about how long it would take to listen to all of it once through. That would be kind of freaky and scary, so I won't. I decided I would organize better, on the external hard drive. So far, I have some all-caps folders for various genres (folk, gospel, hiphop/ska/triphop/etc., music mixes, bluegrass, etc.), some folders devoted to particular artists for whom I have a lot of stuff (Tom Waits, Sweet Honey in the Rock, etc.), and a "miscellaneous pop" folder that's going to hold single tracks. I've begun the process of having an "artists" folder for pop/rock/indie artists for whom I have more than one song.

Some of my MP3s are ripped from cds I also own, but I don't want to get rid of the cds. Still pondering if I should. I prefer having the backup, and not all players can do the MP3 thing.

The new player, when the radio comes on for my alarm, doesn't do the gradually-getting-louder thing that the old one did. I miss that.
