Title: Horrible Things
Fandom: Veronica Mars
Pairing: Veronica/Mac
Rating: Adult
Disclaimers: I own not. Femslash to follow.
Spoilers: Through the end of season two.
Summary: Veronica called Mac. She doesn't dwell on what that might mean.

Veronica knows that Mac is still in shock from what Beaver (Cassidy, his name was Cassidy, but she likes the idea of pissing him off even after he's dead) did, almost did. She should have called Logan when her dad didn't show up at the airport - she should have just gotten on the damn plane and had her day in the sun - but she didn't. Veronica called Mac. She doesn't dwell on what that might mean.

There are physical scars and there are emotional scars and Veronica has acquired more than her fair share of both. She hates that Mac is losing her innocence, and Veronica doesn't like how it feels to see it happening to someone else. Veronica has always been an eye-for-an-eye kind of girl, but Beaver's death wasn't satisfying because it was so short and such a gesture of fucking cowardice. In the back of her mind she thinks that some part of Beaver really did care for Mac (she won't use the word love because she's not sure she wants to assign any purity of emotion to that monster) because Mac's still alive and doesn't have chlamydia. She doesn't know that Mac's glad there won't be any trial, that maybe the whole thing will fade faster without the villain having his day in court.

They decided that the only thing to do about the entire situation (and Veronica's not worried about her dad, she's not even though he hasn't answered his cell and she can't track it) was to behave like it didn't happen. Beaver did horrible things to a lot of people and all that Mac and Veronica have is each other.

Mac tries to act like she isn't horrified, but Veronica is a fucking PI and damn good at reading people (especially those that don't want her to), so they drink themselves into oblivion while trying to convince each other that denial isn't what they want. They're not successful, not by any means, but it's the only thing either girl is capable of in the aftermath.

They drink until Veronica isn't sure who kissed who first, but she knows she isn't going to stop it and Mac seems sure of herself. Veronica tries to tell herself that when her knuckle is dragging over Mac's clit and Mac's eyes are squeezed shut while she's coming it isn't Beaver Mac's thinking about. When Veronica's watching with detached disbelief as Mac concentrates on twisting her fingers just the right way in Veronica's sex, Mac knows that Veronica's a million miles away. Mac also knows that when Veronica comes, Veronica might be thinking about Mac, and that's the way she wanted it anyway.
