This afternoon I finally got my
Ingress invite. (Android only, it's a Google produced game.) After having requested it four weeks ago! I was actually starting to not care anymore. I mean, by the time I would get to play all the portal would be claimed and I wouldn't be able to do anything anyway. Right? Except I was still excited to get it.
I started the tutorial. The first mission had me collecting XM which was as simple as walking around my backyard like a confused prospector in the dark. The second mission is to claim a portal. There aren't any in my area so it said it was creating a test portal for me (I suspect this is normal operation). It turned out there was one very close to my house. So here I was wearing my winter coat over no shirt and just my sandals walking up the street to catch this portal. It looks like it's in the yard where there are some extensive Christmas decorations so I figured I may not look like I'm going for a walk but at least I could look like I'm taking holiday photos. But just as I reached it, my map goes blank and I can't click anything. Nothing. I went back home turned it off, back on, and still black. Shut down the phone and back on and still black. The damn thing crashed on me.
BAH! Stoopid game.
Then I saw a local message from somebody claiming that once they hit level 4 they were going to try to capture the portal at the church on Euclid. *whimper*
I never get nice things. :-(
On the other hand, I got a card from my parents today. Aside from it being heavily religious they included a check to cover the cost I spent to have Grendel cremated. Which is nice. Even nicer they included three gift cards for Best Buy totaling $150. I take it this is my Christmas present. I guess that's nice. Now I have to figure out if there is anything at Best Buy that I actually want to get.
