I meant to try to watch at least one of the three shows I had left on my DVR from this past week's airings, but I ended up cleaning out some old recordings I decided I just was never going to catch up with. So long, Chuck. I'm too bored to worry about being behind by a dozen episodes and I have plenty of other shows to watch.
Last night I swung by Target and used up the last of my gift card I got from my brother for Christmas. With that and sales and a mere $13 out of my own pocket I walked out with four movies! So I got through a couple of those today.
First: Inception. What was everyone complaining about? That made perfect sense to me. Not confusing at all. Okay, fine, there are probably at least a half dozen ways you could interpret it, but still. It was very good and very well done. I'll gladly sit through it a second time.
Second: District 9. I want to say it was completely original because I haven't seen anything quite like it. But I also don't think it was. I had a feeling it would go exactly where it went. That said, it kept me engaged, the effects were superb, and the acting was tremendous. I liked it, but I think the only way I'd sit through it again is if I were making my brother watch it, who may have already seen it.
Third: Being Human. The real version, of course. Some complicated emotions running the gamut here. Some complicated twists going on, and phenomenal that it took place, in essence, solely in the house. I love it when a story can be borne with limited settings. It enhances the fact that the characters are driving the story. So much love.
The bad news: I tried to do laundry tonight. Normally this would be a good thing. The machine had pretty much broken down a few months ago but it started behaving again, if somewhat temperamentally. Tonight it started beeping that it was done after only 10 minutes into a 50 minute cycle. And it was still full of soapy water. Many, many, many attempts to get it going again have at least gotten most of the water drained but it isn't spinning anymore and won't even get going again. Now I have to just let it sit there overnight and try again tomorrow. It might work. Or I might have to hand wash everything in my bathtub.
Sometimes I hate technology.
