Still no title.
Still PG.
Still Daniel/Sha're.

The team was forced to set up a bare minimum camp inside one of the ruins as the guards had never left their post. The jungle was pitch black and for the first time the nighttime noises had Daniel on edge. He couldn’t sleep. It didn’t help he was getting a call from nature. The worry of being captured had dried out his mouth, which he tried to compensate with excess water and it was finally taking its toll.

A midnight stroll wasn’t exactly what he wanted right now, but his bladder had other plans. He forced himself up and stepped outside. Wash and Simons were quietly on watch. Daniel checked the time and realized one of them would probably be off to check on the gate soon. If it were clear then it was a good thing he was already awake. He sleepily waved a hand to them as he stepped into the brush to find a private spot.

A few minutes later and feeling quite relieved, Daniel suddenly wasn’t sure which direction the camp was. He used to be good at keeping his bearings back when he did digs on Earth. The tension and lack of sleep had really messed with his senses. He brushed his hair out of his eyes and spun in a circle trying to find a recognizable landmark. Giving up, he just picked a direction and started walking.

When he had clamored over and past various trees and bushes, Daniel was beginning to realize he had chosen the wrong direction. To make matters even worse, the darkness was causing him to hear things. Tingles down his spine told him he was being followed. He tried to shrug it off as his imagination, but he was too worked up to ignore it. He was lost. He knew he couldn’t call out for Simons or Wash for fear of giving away their position. He cursed himself for having left his radio by his knapsack.

The noises were definitely real. They were most assuredly getting closer, too. Daniel decided to sit still beside a bush and hope to hide out whatever passersby were headed his way. Trying to hold his breath to listen carefully seemed to magnify the noises around him. His nerves were working over time. He thought he saw a shadow a few feet away. He craned his neck trying to get a clearer view when suddenly something cold touched his skin, sending fearful shivers throughout his body. The electric snap told him exactly what it was: a staff weapon, charged to fire and pointed at his throat.

Daniel was led into one of the temples that was still intact. He had been wanting to explore this area, but certainly not in this manner. Prodded into the center of the room, the Jaffa smacked him in the back of the knees forcing him to kneel. Briefly he considered asking them to try a different method sometime, the knees could only take so much.

He looked up the length of the room where a small dais stood. The Jaffa called out some command and waited. From a doorway off to the side, a graceful woman in an elegant white gown and brilliant jewelry stepped out to the center and stared down at him. She gave the most beautiful smile of pleasure, but Daniel’s throat had gone dry again.

“Sha’re!”

“Leave us!” She snapped to the guards who bowed and left quickly. Daniel remained on his knees in stunned silence as she slowly walked toward him. The cold fingertips of her ribbon device lifted his chin as she leaned forward to growl in his face. “My name is Amaunet. The host cannot help you.”

“That’s not true. I’ve recently met some people called the Tok’ra. They can help you, Sha’re.”

“Where is the rest of SG-1?”

“They are not here.”

“Then who is here with you?”

Daniel gulped. He was not about to betray his teammates. “No one. I’m here alone.”

“You lie.” She sneered and headed back to the dais where she sat gracefully in the stone chair.

Daniel stood up and walked closer to her. She watched him with pleasure in her eyes and he got the distinct feeling she was toying with him. “Sha’re, you can fight it. I know you can regain control.”

“Silence!” Her eyes flashed reminding Daniel of the demon within. Then she gave him a cold devilish smile. “Would you like to know what your Sha’re has taught me?”

Daniel wasn’t sure how to answer that. He wanted his wife back but not necessarily channeled through the Goa’uld. She was definitely toying with him but he had the impression there was something of Sha’re in control, otherwise he would already be dead. She raised her hand, aiming the ribbon device at him and sent forth a blast that knocked him across the room. Landing on his back, Daniel felt his breath leave him and darkness surround his eyes as he lost consciousness.
