"Years Spent Away"

Feb 06, 2010 04:27

So you wonder where I've been?
I've gone everywhere but here.
I've been walking through the desert,
For what feels a hundred years.
All the stories that I've told,
Have seldom felt so old,
But to watch them leave your lips,
They look like lies.

So answer me,
Look me in the eyes.
And lie to me,
And swear you always tried.
To answer all the questions,
That we never, ever asked.
Because all the monsters,
Under our beds,
Never ever had a past.

The sand has come and gone,
Through the hourglass I've drawn,
My blood from in attempts to feel alive.
But the apathy's still here,
And it soon gives way to fear,
That all the nonsense that I've lived is next to die.

So answer me,
Look me in the eyes.
And lie to me,
And swear you always tried.
To answer all the questions,
That we never, ever asked.
Because all the monsters,
Under our beds,
Never ever had a past.

I've been gone a hundred years,
But I've rarely seen so clear.
Is there something in the sky just past my sight?
I've turned water into wine,
Upon the table where we'll dine,
And feast upon the beast I'll be tonight.
