The past few days have been full of stress, but there have been great moments among them.
Friday evening, Samantha and I were going to my old church to see minstrel pianist
David McClintock perform. I'd seen him twice before, and was very excited about Samantha seeing him perform. We got into my car to leave and as we drove onto the road in front of the house the car started cutting off. We both guessed that the alternator was going bad, so we decided to park my car at the house. We took Samantha's car to the concert and really enjoyed ourselves. There were a few people who gave Samantha looks, as she is seen by many as the woman who took me away from the church. They did not understand that we made the decision to find a church that we could both feel comfortable attending.
We got up early Saturday morning and had the car towed to a service station for repair. My friend, Henry, was coming up from Raleigh to visit and to meet Samantha for the first time. He arrived at 11am and we went to Blue Mist for some barbecue lunch. We stopped by the service station to check on the car. It was ready. The mechanic told me that the problem was a battery cable and the battery. Fair enough. As I backed out to leave the car cut off. I though nothing of it really. I figured that I just didn't have the car in gear properly. I restarted it and all was well. We went back home, Henry stayed a bit and left, and Samantha and I watched Mulberry, As Time Goes By, and Waiting for God before retiring.
Sunday morning we went to church. We've decided that we will be attending the
Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Climax, roughly seven miles from the house. The service was very moving for me. After church, we went home, changed, and prepared to go to Mom's for lunch. My car, which had made it to church just fine and dandy, decided to cause trouble again. Once more, we switch vehicles and continued our day.
I took the day off work yesterday to take the car into the shop( 16 miles away). The car did okay at that point, just as it had done on the trip to church. Samantha followed me. We ate breakfast, shopped a bit, visited Mom, went out for lunch, went to the mall, and then decided to go to the shop. We'd called three times over the course of the day to get a status update. We had the car there at 8:30 am. At 4:30 pm I was told that the mechanic still didn't have any idea and that the car would have to stay overnight. We drove home frustrated and a bit peeved.
Samantha drove me the 28 miles to work today. She'll pick me up this evening and we'll go get the car, which is now ready.
Next comes Thanksgiving, which will be spent at our house with my Mom and my brother and his family coming over. This week has not been boring!
I am so grateful, though. Yes, I'm tired and a bit frazzled. Still, I have a wonderfully supportive wife and the means to get the car repaired. I have a church home and fantastic family (hers and mine) and awesome friends. Life is good and I am blessed. I thank God for that!
