The wedding was wonderful. The whole hour before, however, I did nothing but nervously pace back and forth. I wanted everything to go perfect for Samantha and was worried.
I can't even begin to describe how beautiful a bride Samantha made. She started to walk down the aisle and I could hardly keep myself together. She noticed and kept winking at me to try to keep me straight. It worked until we exchanged our personal vows. I completely lost it then. People said that they were moved by the service, and by our vows in particular. We wanted the ceremony to celebrate our faith as well as our love, and I think that we succeeded.
Thankfully, we did receive a bit of money as wedding presents as I'd left my check card in the ATM on the way to the wedding (I found out on the way home from our dinner)! Some good soul had called in the card for me, saving us a ton of problems. I'd panicked, but Samantha kept her cool the whole time.
We honeymooned
here, which is about four hours or so away. Samantha drove, for which I was thankful. I get nervous driving over steep and winding mountain roads. We stayed in The Pine cabin from Sunday night until Friday morning. We brought our food with us and only ate in a restaurant on the trip there and back..
We hiked a bit on Monday and Tuesday. Tuesday's Hike was
Max Patch. The view was breathtaking, even if it took forever on the gravel back roads to get there. I kept wishing for a panoramic lens to really capture the view. On Wednesday we went to the local hot springs for a soak. Yes, we had a hot tub at the cabin, but there is nothing like a natural hot spring. On Thursday, we took a ride along Paint Creek, stopping at various points to wade and enjoy the view. I really enjoyed that adventure! On Friday's trip home we stopped by the
North Carolina Arboretum.
The plants were gorgeous, and I was particularly excited by all the bonsai trees. I keep thinking that I'd like one as a hobby. Samantha keeps telling me that it will be very time consuming. :)
We also fit in some Doctor Who DVDs and a couple of games of Doctor Who Top Trumps (which Samantha won) between the hiking and the, ahem, marital activities. ;).
So, yes, now we are home and getting the house together as we can, between my working and Samantha's job hunting. I've aggravated myself in the area of my surgery last year by moving furniture and the like. Samantha is doing her best to take care of me, but it is difficult, as I am a very stubborn man.
This married life suits me and I love my new bride very much!
