Zen and the Art of Kirk Maintenance

The last week and a half was one of being sick. I'm almost never sick, but when I am, it's bad. I apologize for not keeping up with commenting on posts with my normal frequency. Hopefully, I'll get back in the swing of things now.

I was feeling much, much better yesterday, but I needed some time just to be, and to enjoy myself.

Leaving from work, I stopped off at Borders and picked up a few things, including the first issue of The Brave and the Bold, the new DC team up comic book. It was a winner...Mark Waid and George Perez doing a Batman/Green Lantern team up. There were some great little character moments, and, needless to say, the book looked incredible. Perez is one of my favorite comic artists of all time.

Later at home, I made the decision that this would be a night without television. I got our my acoustic guitar, played and sang a bit of blues, country, gospel, and rockabilly...just letting my soul breathe.

Afterward, I put on a couple of Sting albums (The Dream of the Blue Turtles and Demolition Man) while I did dishes and some housework. I listened and enjoyed. I love the fact that Sting's music makes you both feel and think while it makes you groove. So many artists cannot combine all of that, and he seems to do it effortlessly.

After a shower, I received a phone call and talked until way past my normal bedtime. The call was filled with much laughter, and, though I went to bed late, I was not tired this morning.

The happiest moments in life, the ones that give us peace and energize us, are many times the ones where we just allow ourselves to experience life...to be fully in the moment...to just be. I wish you all moments like that.

music, life, sting, happiness
