I mentioned back in September that I was joining a team to do the CN Tower climb this April. Well, I’ve been keeping up with it, and I seem to be the perfect storm for this sort of thing. Between my lean build, long limbs, and high stamina I’ve managed to become the team mascot. On Monday I got a new record time for the training runs our team does.
To train we run up and down 11 stories, 9 times. So up and down 99 stories; slightly more than the height of the CN Tower. Anyways, I did this with a time of 20:24.6. Of course on race day we only have to go up. The coach/ lead/ core of the team/ previous record holder is mighty impressed and glad he recruited me. He keeps saying I’ll be the first up the tower.
That is actually possible, even if I’m not the fastest climber. You see the team runs under the parent company’s name, Canada Life, which happen to be THE sponsor of the event. The team Captain (some PR muckity-muck) gives a speech, and cuts a ribbon for the press. Then he (and his team) gets to be first in line, which means less jostling and jockeying on the stairs. Apparently our team has held the 1st place co-ed time for a number of years.
The real point of this post is to say that I will be running in the 20th Annual Canada Life CN Tower Climb for WWF - Canada on April 15th, 2010. I need to wait for the muckity-muck to register our team, but once that happens, I’ll be looking for pledges.
Just thought I’d give everyone fair warning.
