The company I work for employs just over 50 people. I work in the medical device research industry, which is somewhat safe from the recession.
Today, they laid off 8 employees. It was handled very well. The owners of the company had been having quite a few meetings this week. We were called to a meeting in the break room this afternoon. When I went in there and saw that MLC (the president of the company) was not making eye contact with anyone, I knew it was not a good meeting. We were each given an envelope with a room to go to. Mine said OR2, when I was walking there I saw that most of my coworkers were also going there. That was when I figured I was safe.
Later in the afternoon, PLC (MLC's wife) came to make sure that I was ok. She had noticed I looked vary scared in the meeting. I told her that I was terrified. She told me not to worry, I had a lot to offer the company and I was safe. I cannot say how happy I am that I work for a company that really cares about us.
So, yeah. Not exactly what I was expecting this week.
I am going to get more drunk now.
