Seeing Elita eased Optimus' spark somewhat. He'd heard most of her comments to Prowl on his way. Through their bond, he sent, "Thank you for standing up for me."
To Blaster, he said, "I don't understand what's going through Prowl's processor. We'd made a deal with Barricade to get Wheeljack out, that's true, but it was the only way. The rescue didn't go exactly to plan, and we will pay the Decepticons back for that, but we all came home alive. I couldn't have hoped for such an outcome with any other plan - and the information Wheeljack brought was too important to leave behind."
Glad to see Prime wasn't angsting as much as she thought he would be she replied through their bond before turning her attention to Blaster. ~"Of course my love as if i would do anything else."~
"Not only that but Vortex had recently made Planet Fall. If we didn't take our soonest opportunity to get Wheeljack out who knows what that glitched-spark would have done."
Blaster felt like he was intruding on a lovers' meeting, even though he'd arrived first.
"That's why you have Prowl, Prime. Use him. He's not a walking logic circuit for no reason. It's not my place to dress you down an all that, but man, this is a whack situation to walk into." He huffed, more than a little frustrated. "So what's this info that's so important that we paid two injured mechs for anyway? 'Specially one getting done by Soundwave. That Con don't play nice at all."
Prime sighed. "I know. But it was happening too fast. All I needed Prowl to do was create a distraction - I thought he'd manage, and I could brief him on everything else later.
"The information, Blaster, is about the survival of our race. According to Skyfire's research, we don't need the Allspark to continue the species. He's given us the information he's gathered, and Wheeljack and Ratchet are pretty excited about it." Optimus half-smiled and shook his head. "They're not alone in that."
"You know with him fore-warned is fore-armed, Boss-mech." Another heavy sigh let loose before he was rocked back on his pede's by the next bomb. "Wh-what?! How can we not need the Allspark? It's the...Allspark!" That was enough explanation for him. Blaster had never really been one for philosophy.
"I know, but... if it's the spark, then we carry the flame." Prime couldn't keep the hope out of his voice. "It's possible, Blaster - we've got a future. It's going to take a long time yet, but when this war's over we can rebuild our home."
He just stared at Prime, mouth hanging open a little as his processor sped madly ahead, trying to assimilate this fresh byte of data. "So, you're saying the Allspark isn't necessary? That we don't need it to generate new sparks? How do you know this?"
He shut his mouth then, tempted to mute his vocalizer before it ran away with all of the questions that were spawning in his processor, almost dreading what Prime's answer might be.
"We don't. It's possible through spark-bonding - Skyfire's given us his research on it, and Ratchet agrees with him. I've uploadedit to the network, have a look if you like." Optimus suppressed a laugh at Blaster's shock. Not that it was unexpected - it's a big change to wrap your processor around, after all - but it wasn't often he got to see the mech utterly dumbfounded.
"Man...this is some whack shiz," he muttered after reading the uploaded report. A grin stretched the red mech's mobile mouth structure. "So, when are you and Elita gonna drop a litter huh?"
That's what Prime got for trying to trip him up like that. He would have gloated a bit more except right then a very familiar voice pierced his audio with a howl that made him want to laugh and cry in pain at the same time. Only one other mech talked like that: Jazz!
Hey Prime...can I talk to you?

Of course, Blaster. What's on your mind?

What Prowl was talking about. What's going on Boss-mech?
