Summary: The fantasy haunted Megatron.
Author's Note: A bit different than my normal writing style.
It haunted him.
The dream, the fantasy, the delusion, the hallucination, the vision that filled the idle moments of his life. It was sweet torment, showing him what he could never posses.
What he truly desired.
Nor was it a static vision. It flickered between places, times, and the faces of the two mechs his Spark yearned for.
Sometimes he sat upon a golden throne, unquestioned ruler of the universe. A ruby-opticed Optimus Prime sat beside him as lover, peer, and Sparkmate.
Other times the second throne's occupant was the innocent, cheerful, and youthful Orion Pax - his beloved consort.
On other occasions, his throne was a solitary one.
Then, he held a trusting Orion within his silver arms. The younger mech watched him with adoring optics and rested his blue helm upon the ruler's chest, eagerly accepting Megatron's touch.
Or, lacking Orion, the dream offered Optimus Prime bound hand and foot to the throne. Optimus' defiance remained, even with his Spark bared to Megatron's own. Only the minute shifts to bring their forms closer betrayed the Autobot's surrender to Megatron's dominance.
Nor was the throne room a fixed setting.
Sometimes, he and Optimus - or he and Orion, depending on the dream - made love in Megatron's quarters on the Nemesis, the bridge of the Ark, the washracks, the shipyards of Tyger Pax, and various locations in both Kaon and Iacon. On one memorable occasion, he ravished Optimus Prime in the middle of a gladiatorial arena battle.
Megatron himself doesn't remain constant.
Occasionally, he was the simple energon miner from before the war. More often, he alternated between the erratic, victory drunk gladiator and the more balanced Decepticon leader he currently was.
The growth from gladiator to leader, Megatron knew, was the result of the two mechs who ensnared his mind and Spark.
His companion, whether Optimus Prime or Orion Pax, was a mutable as everything else, often changing mid-dream. Optimus' mask vanished to reveal Orion Pax' open face, or Orion - shuttering his optics in bliss - morphed into the Autobot commander visage.
He knew there was a reason for the connection between the two, just as he knew there was a reason the two mechs never appeared together in his dream.
Megatron was certain he could discover those reasons, but knew he'd never search for them. Orion Pax was dead - felled by Megatron's own hand, and one of his few true regrets. As for Optimus, the Prime could have any mech or femme on either Cybertron or Earth. Why, in Primus' name, would Optimus even consider his arch-enemy in such a way?
So, haunted by the cries of his Spark, Megatron dreamed.
