Overall, a lovely, lovely day. G-sales in the morning. It was hotter than Hell, but we still managed to gather a lively crew:
quag1,
drjohn,
winwin,
futurity and myself were all up for the challenge. Thank goodness for the Miller Minivan. Acquisitions were mediocre-ish most of the day, save for a killer red glass lamp scored by
futurity. Then, just as we were winding down for lunch, we came upon this:

Two of them, actually. They are actually prints, although they are giclee prints on canvas and stretched gallery-style on extra-thick frames. I loooooved them, and the seller was ready to unload, so
futurity each snagged one for $5 each. Yay, garage sales.
Shortly thereafter, much delicious grub was consumed by the group at
FoodHeads. After lunch,
quag1 and I took a short nap, showered, and hopped in the car and headed to San Antonio for the
Steely Dan/Michael McDonald concert at the
Verizon Wireless Amphitheater. Yes, I know that going to a concert that includes Michael McDonald officially catapults us into "old people" status, but let me just say that these are
old people who rock! I had snagged these tickets for free earlier in the week courtesy of the fabulous woman who takes care of the plants in our office, but was a bit apprehensive because of the heat and the fact that the tickets were in something called the "lawn" section. As it turned out, however, they were perfect. The Amphitheater was designed so that the worst of the sun hits the back of the stage, so the heat wasn't bad at all, and there was a nice breeze. Sitting on a blanket under a huge expanse of Texas sky listening to these amazing musicians perform made me feel downright giddy. There was a gorgeous sunset, more amazing music, a big turkey leg and some ice cream, then, when dark fell, we could alternate between watching the show and lying back on our blanket and looking up at the Big Dipper. Bliss.
We are sold on the Amphitheater and are already talking about going back in August for
Earth, Wind & Fire. Lawn tickets are only $20. Anybody else want to come along?
