rice shop

last time i was back in my grandmother's apartment, i looked down from the window above the rice shop to check for the dents. my grandmother had installed a metal window cage (in a bid for more space?) and it somewhat obscured my view, but i could still see between the bars. the rice shop roof was a patchwork of old corrugated metal sheeting, which varied in colour. i  felt incredulous that the dents were still there, but i also felt weird relief that there was some proof that those things really happened and here are those two dents and people didn't simply disappear. i never came across the woman who announced 你女兒跳樓了 to my grandmother, which is kind of too bad since she would have made things very real for me and i would have also gotten the satisfaction of communicating my contempt. or perhaps i should stun them with kindness and compassion in return for their malice. i don't know if they would be shamed, but i think they would be confused, which may be sufficient - there are other ways to be.
