Attempted break-in
so this is how it goes:
working on school project until 1:20ish - go to bed, turn off my lights around 1:40, turn the tv off around 2 - I hear light thuds coming from my house. Anyone who knows my house, knows the heat pipes bang - there was no heat on - thought maybe it was the plumbing. Since cathy was seeing signs of someone being around our house and in our backyard a couple of weeks ago, I will admit the peak in my attention to detail, my lack of sleeping due to hearing strange noises etc.. now you all know my dirty secret...Being paranoid - I lay awake and listen to these thuds, I'm awake for a half hour, I'm looking for some pattern so I can figure out what the noise is, because there shouldn't be any noise with no heat. I hear a loud crash. I lean over to my window - side gate is unlocked open all the way, and the noises I hear are coming from inside my house and right outside my window, which means the glass porch and now I'm terrified. My cell is downstairs so I can't call the cops right away.
I go to my moms room, wake her up because someone is breaking into our house through our porch.
I had to really yell to get her to wake up since she takes ambien to sleep - she would have never heard a thing if I wasn't here.
They hear me yell, I hear them drop whats left of the glass in their hands and hear footsteps on our painfully dry lawn and the gate swinging, I go back to my room to see what I can see. I see someone hiding behind a bush next to my neighbors doorway and thats the last I see of them. 5 minutes later, a girl from next door, walks out to her car and drives away just as the cops are pulling up at 2:40. A basement light is still on in their house at that time.
The damage: 3 very hard to remove thick glass panels are out, one chipped and the huge wall length screen seems to have been punched in. Our porch becomes a crime scene but dirty windows, starts to rain, they didn't get much.
The window and screen are boken - now we have a huge person sized hole in my porch, which we blocked up with "stuff" from around the house, because it couldn't be fixed tonight! This makes me feel worse. Like I'm really going to sleep now..at least I had a really nice nap earlier.
I don't know how to make my "old" house safer. If anyone knows a temp quick fix for a person sized hole - I would really really appreciate it.
I think I should have a "try and break into chrissys house" day - all my friends can come over, and if they can break into my house, we'll fix that weak spot... I guess I don't feel so crazy. I thought I have been hearing things this whole time.. and I was!
I hate my neighbors. I want a loud dog that bites strangers.
Not sleeping ever again.. at least not until my house is safe.
