End of The Year Wrap-Up ...

Dec 27, 2007 21:05

Yeah, I'm not putting this behind a cut.
It was a good year, all around.
Check it.

1. What did you do in 2007 that you'd never done before?
I actually declared my favorite for the presidential race and am working for that campaign in my state. Up to this point, I'd just voted in June primaries and November generals in South Dakota for the front-running Democrats.

2. Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I'm not sure that I made any resolutions, but I'm sure that if I did, I gave them a good stab before outright giving up on them. Oh, I did manage to stick to my Lenten sacrifice of instant gratification, that was fun.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Yes!
My sister-in-law gave birth to my youngest nephew in November!

4. Did anyone close to you die?
We lost my nephew Morris back this summer, but I couldn't make the funeral.

5. What countries did you visit?
I visited xanderx as well as my friends Melly and Em in San Francisco. After years of South Dakota and months of living in Northern Nevada, it kind of was like going to a foreign country for me.

6. What would you like to have in 2008 that you lacked in 2007?
A boyfriend might be nice, but truth be told, I haven't dated in almost two years, so I'd probably spook fairly easy.

7. What date(s) from 2007 will remain etched your memory, and why?
My brother's wedding (short and sweet affair) because of the minister's words, "Too often, we are judged by the clothes we wear ... " and she went on about how most people don't want to know us but when we find another half, that's the ultimate act of love. It was sweet, truthful and made me cry like a bitch.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Getting all my ducks in a row to start school again.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Nothing too heinous, I think it's mostly filed under, "Minor Failures."

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I broke a tooth, had it extracted and my back went out. That's about all.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
I'd have to say my freedom. And an iPod.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
My mother's, she's always been awesome.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
I won't name names, but Kevin Aviance said it best, "There were moments."

14. Where did most of your money go?
Food and shelter, baby!

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
BARACK, BABY!

16. What song(s) will always remind you of 2007?
I don't know, that's a hard one. Probably E.L.O.'s "Telephone Line."

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. Happier or sadder? Definitely happier.
ii. Thinner or fatter? A little thinner, I've lost like, 20 pounds this month alone!
iii. Richer or poorer? A little richer, but it all still goes to bills.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Going to work and taking chances.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Sleeping and playing it safe.

20. How did you spend Christmas?
Oy, don't ask. Let's just say that no fast food place in all of Christendom is open on Christmas Day and that got a little maddening.

22. Did you fall in love in 2007?
Eh, only with myself.

23. How many one-night stands?
Pffft! Zero!
I'm a hermit and about as sexy as a fart.

24. What was your favorite TV program?
I really got into "Dexter," but I'd have to say my favorite of all was "The Amazing Mrs. Pritchard." Even if you aren't a political fantasy junkie like me, see it!

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Not especially. My hatred's mostly boiled down and I try to remember my Whoopi Goldberg from "Ghosts of Mississippi," "When you hate, the only person who suffers is you, because most of the people you hate don't know it and the others don't care."

26. What was the best book you read?
Well, I'm still working on finishing "The Rebel" but "Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows" was pretty decent. I can tell it made an impact because I know I'll never ever want to go camping ever again.

27. What was/were your greatest musical discoveries?
As always, annaclaire is always my music junkie dealer. She introduced me to Camera Obscura and Of Montreal. But I will say that I did make my own, personal, musical discoveries with Jarvis Cocker, Wolf Parade, Patrick Wolf, Mika, The Pipettes and after watching "About a Boy" several dozen times, got reacquainted with Badly Drawn Boy.

28. What did you want and get?
An apartment!

29. What did you want and not get?
A different car, namely a Jeep. Oh wellzzzzz.

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
I really didn't get to the movies, like, at all this year. I did get to see the latest Harry Potter flick but I really wanted to see "The Nannie Diaries" or "Lions for Lambs."

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I had my silver jubilee birthday at the lake with my family, I turned 25.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Just getting on out there and on with life.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2007?
Reformed gay wastrel.
A lot of blacks, grays and browns, most of the time all in one outfit. That's me, breaking fashion boundaries! I also looked a little more cleaned up with pinstripe shirts and bootcut cordies that I didn't immediately feel the need to alter and/or cut into.

34. What kept you sane?
Talking to my friends.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Barack Obama.
You wanna fightaboutit?

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
ENDA and the Nevada Caucus.

37. Who did you miss?
I miss all my friends and relatives.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
Aside from The Boy of Indeterminate Sexual Orientation?
Probably my field coordinator for the Obama campaign, David.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2007:
It's good to own land.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
"There's got to be a change in the weather
There's got to be a life for me that's better
I'm going to kick my shoes off and try to fly."
-- Gene Pitney, "Small Town."
