Dougal and the Blue Cat
This is a film from my childhood - though it’s actually eleven years older than me. We had it on video and I watched it a lot. It is one of the most surreal, gently creepy and creepily lovable things ever even if you’re familiar with the Magic Roundabout to start with, which I believe I wasn’t. Mark Kermode loves it (Simon Mayo hates it). It’s all a bit posher in vocabulary and inflection than I remember, but then, it was 1972. I can’t really do it justice with a description - basically, Magic Roundabout land is invaded by the colour blue. Which is evil. There’s a blue cat and a blue voice and a series of tests which involve correctly identifying shades of blue. Here is it on Wikipedia and youtube.

WPL edits
This one is inspired by Katy because one of her blue things was to do with maths markup. The 'house style', if you can call it that, is for most WP edits on storylines and all edits on manuscripts to be done in lovely unifrom blue.
I've been lucky enough to be on both ends of WP editing. It's really satisfying to send off a manuscript all marked up in blue and it's also really exciting to recieve one, and both are always quite nerve-wracking.
Editing is massively frustrating sometimes but it's also kind of like a logic puzzle. How can I rearrange this scene to make this change work? What needs to be said in order for this character to be more x y or z? Also, no matter how heavy the edit, there's always something people liked so the first read through is always tempered with SQUEE.

I love this song. I love Regina Spektor. I love the weird twitchy piano stuff from Soviet Kitsch and I love her big orchestrated epic stuff and everything in between, and this song is kind of both things and very awesome.

The Sea
I love the sea, the sea is beautiful and deep and scary and BIG and blue and green and brown and grey and dirty and alive and just THERE. Here is Vaughan Williams' Sea Symphony on youtube (in three parts), which may or may not express how totally awesome the sea is.
