Mark Watson, the really sweet comedian responsible for We Need Answers and Mark Watson Makes The World Substantially Better (Everybody! Exemplum, exemplum, an example from your own life, but in this case it's from Mark's life, so it's a Marxemplum!)... has started a blog in which he intends to document the next ten years of his life, having just turned thirty and had a baby. (And I mean, JUST had a baby, his son must be about three days old as of today.)

He is also suggesting that his readers join him in a Ten Year Self Improvement Challenge. And I find this weirdly inspiring, presumably mostly because it's Mark Watson and his track record is so awesome.

Funnily enough, I was thinking very similar thoughts the other day. Here is a list of ten things I came up with. They are not all big things. But they are not all small things, either.

In no particular order:

Be published.
Be published under my own name.
Learn to sail.
Learn to juggle and/or other interesting circus skills.
Achieve and maintain a ‘healthy’ BMI.
… and get and stay happy about it, which is harder.
Get better at drawing.
Create and maintain a webcomic for a bit. ('A bit' being defined as 'however long I can be bothered, but without leaving off in the middle of a plot or anything'). Have at least one regular reader.
Host an all-night Oscars party.
Celebrate 30th birthday in an awesome fashion.

Anybody else? I am a little bit serious, but mostly I just find this kind of thinking aloud entertaining. And it feels less ridiculously self-indulgent if you do it some other time than the first of January.

I decided not to include the following:
Get married
Get at least two cats, maybe a dog
Live in a nice house somewhere nice
Also, babies
(Because I am just assuming that all of this will happen at some point in the future...)

Write up The Laureate as a graphic novel script (possibly connected: win Script Frenzy one year)
Take a project at WP from kernel idea to published book
Go to Comic-Con
Go to Empire Movie-Con
Make lots of vids
Go to a fancy dress party as Agatha Heterodyne (preferably with attendant Jagers. Helen, Joff and Gareth, I am looking at you.)
(Because they were small or silly or less interesting.)

Also, it's official: Batman beats Superman.

Meanwhile, I find myself very cross about various things this morning. Mostly the BBC's alleged pre-emptive Tory pandering. If they axe 6Music my music radio listening habits will drop from occasional to NEVER. I shouldn't go on because I will get shouty and generalising and stupid about things I actually don't know about. But seriously. Where does one buy pitchforks and flaming torches these days?

On the other hand it is lunchtime, I have soup, and I have Kermode, so yeah.
