I went to work, all week, like every day. I am allowed to complain, just this once, because it is new. It's a nearly-two-hour commute and I'm supposed to be there at 9:15. And orchestra is at 9:30 on Saturdays. NOW SLEEPY.

Work is good, though. SBIs, paysheets, filing, schedules, fixing, budgets, programme skeletons, proof-reading, ACT!, templates, photocopying. That sort of thing. I also got to actually hear the orchestra play yesterday. They were rehearsing for their production of Falstaff which is the next couple of weeks. There were soloists and orchestra and it was good. And I saw, but didn't get to speak to, their conductor. The people are nice. Interesting balance between things I have never done before and need explaining, things I really ought to understand better than I do ('remittance advice', wtf), and things I can probably already do as well as or better than they're being done at the moment. Work computer is appallingly slow. And doesn't have a rolly-clicky-mouse, tempted to bring my own, how did I manage when scrolling meant actually moving the mouse to the scroll bar? There is a time around 11am and one around 3pm where I am having serious trouble remainging awake, especially if I'm not doing anything very exciting. Previous assistant is still around for a month, doing some of the work, teaching me stuff and applying for jobs. She is very nice, and Spanish. And I can definitely have the week of the Holders' holiday off. Also have paid monthly travelcard so effectively free London travel for six months, a pretty good deal really.

Also, anotherusedpage and I are working our way through Lois McMaster Bujold's books, me more slowly than her, although I've now read Barrayar, The Warrior's Apprentice, The Mountains of Mourning and am a few chapters into The Vor Game, and I haven't got bored yet, which is a really good sign with me. She cannot half write, this lady. They are GREAT books. They are so great. I completely adore Miles. Cordelia, Bothari (*FLAIL*) and Ivan are all good too. And Gregor - I haven't had much of him when he isn't four yet, but I loved him when he was four. He was the supreme emperor of everything and he was FOUR...

Jessie is being good about not spoiling me so I shan't go on except just to say they are great, and BOTHARI, and ADMIRAL NAISMITH, and, yes. Happybooks.

zzz, books, osj, work
