Many of you have read J's lengthy description of what happened Monday. I assure you that mine will not be nearly as awesome since I am attempting to post and watch South Park at the same time.
Yesterday we got up waaay too early and got on a very crowded and long flight to Baltimore. I dozed for half the flight. Once in the Baltimore airport, J surprised me with a copy of Pride & Prejudice & Zombies which I happily read during my 3 hour layover. J watched the Justice League on the laptop we borrowed from his moms. Then a short flight to LaGuardia and the confusion over how to get to our hotel. The line for the taxi was stupid, so we took a bus to Grand Central, then a shuttle to the subway system. We managed to figure out the subway system and found our hotel but there was an issue that even I couldn't have solved with pre-emptive planning. The hotel was pretty full since some people had missed their flight and were staying another day. They had one room left and 2 reservations. We got there before the other guy, so we got the room. It was much smaller than the one we had reserved and had a shared bathroom, but they dropped the price and gave us free internet! (I am paying $5 to be able to post this tonight). It was just for the night so whatever. So we got on the subway and ate pizza at Lombardis, the oldest pizzeria in the USA. The crust was fantastic but the toppings were ok. Then we wandered around Soho, Little Italy and Chinatown and then had tiramisu & coffee. We had planned to go to the Upright Citizens Brigade but we missed our train. Oops!
Today we went down for breakfast at this little diner right next to our hotel. As part of the hotel snafu deal they gave us a voucher for 2 free American breakfasts. We didnt like the "American" breakfast so we got 2 omelettes with tomato and feta and paid the difference. $2.25 breakfast FTW! Then off to the Museum of Natural History which we wandered around in for several hours and bought a bunch of really neat (and bizarre) gifts. Then hopped another train to Tavern on the Green which was tasty but a little snooty. Back on the subway to find the Museum of Comic and Cartoon art. We ran up and down several streets trying to find this damn place to no avail. So J dialed information, got their number and called them. I had written down 549 Broadway and it was 594 Broadway. Well crap. So we eventually found it and declared that they need to change the name from the Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art to the Gallery of Comic and Cartoon Art. It was not terribly exciting, but it only cost $5. Oh and on the way to the MoCCA, I got harassed by a guy selling Airheads. J was pretty far ahead of me as we had 45 minutes until the place closed and I told him to go on ahead. Wifey has short little legs and takes longer to get places. So I'm crossing the street, absolutely exhausted since I've been speed walking for 15 minutes trying to get J to this damn museum before it closes and this guy comes up next to me with a bunch of Airheads and tells me not to worry and to have some candy. I told him no thank you but he kept following me. So I say "please leave me alone" and he keeps on at it. So I shout "hey J! This guy is harassing me!" and J turns around in his 6 foot 4 kilted glory complete with mohawk and grabs my hand. The guy says "the lady is crazy J" and keeps following although a few paces behind. J says "no she's not sir" and we finally find the museum and go inside. Annoying little fucker. I'm glad I had J to beat him off if necessary. So then after the museum/gallery we headed over to Washington Square Garden with aching feet and sat down on a park bench where we were approached by a street comedian who told us a few jokes about being black or something. There weren't many interesting street performers, just a bunch of guys with guitars. Wandered around that area a bit, then we tried to get dinner at Otto, which is Mario Batali's pizzaria. It was loud and crowded and the wait for dinner was at least 1 hour and 15 minutes so we said "screw that, it cant be that good" and headed out. We went to Rockefeller Plaza, which was on the agenda for earlier that day but which we skipped in order to make it to MoCCA on time. Wandered around there for a while and found the Magnolia Bakery so we got some cupcakes to go. In our wanderings we somehow ended up in Times Square which could have been fun but we were both tired, hungry, sore and cranky so we were in no mood to be suddenly surrounded by pushing crowds, loud noises and big flashing lights. Got back on the subway and headed uptown to our hotel. We found all our luggage waiting for us in our new hotel suite, the one we had ordered. Its got 2 beds, a bathroom and a seperate kitchen/dining area. Much nicer than last night. Dropped off all our souvenirs and went downstairs to a Thai restaurant in our block. Came back upstairs and ate our cupcakes. And now J has fallen asleep watching South Park and I think I may soon join him. I do not know how we're going to keep this up the next few days. Both of us have sore feet, ankles and back. My shoulder hurts from where I've carried my purse all day. Tomorrow I'll switch to a messenger bag and use the other shoulder. Hopefully it will balance out. Also my purse strap is about 1 hour away from snapping so I cant use it anyway.
Also, this is definitely the dirtiest city I've ever been in. New Yorkers must have fabulous immune systems. They must be supermen. Can we check their bloodstreams for a cure for cancer or something?
