whee kelly doll and phil robertson

I was going to say something about ol' Duck Phil, but I decided I'd rather talk about Kelly.

I won't say I love Kelly more than any other dog, but I love her in a way that is less complicated than, say, the love I have for Cobie (who bit me black and blue, hurt my neck, and pantsed me in public when he was a pup.)

Kelly is a huge source of joy for me.  I call her Whee Kelly because she is so full of bounding Whee!-ness.  She is always delighted to see me.  If she hears my computer shutting off, she tears through the house pouncing on every other animal she can find, announcing her great ecstasy that her favorite! human! is! coming!

However, Kelly ate the toe off my favorite slippers--and she will do it again, every single time, if she ever finds them unattended even for a second.  She is a remorseless eater of slippers.

That's everyone, a mix of good and bad traits.  You, me, Obama, Phil, everyone on Earth.  Good and bad.

What is good and what is bad is subjective.  They are often flip sides of the same coin.  (Kelly eats my shoe because she loves anything that is mine.)   But if you are determined to see the bad, you will be unhappy all the time because your dog ate your shoe.

So.  I don't think Phil is an evil hater.  I think he is mistaken in his beliefs.  I also think he is allowed to be.  And that his boss is allowed to fire him if they have irreconcilable differences.  If they wish, Phil and family should have zero trouble finding another job considering that Dog the Bounty Hunter managed it.1 Mel Gibson is still working.  Michael Richards is still working.  Whoopi Goldberg is still working.

Saying stupid s**t is not a career breaker in the entertainment industry.

One last thought.  I don't believe anyone chooses their beliefs.  Let's see if I can just decide to believe in the Great Pumpkin.  Ready...  Set...  Go.

Nope, still don't believe in the Great Pumpkin.

Going all torches-and-pitchforks2 on someone for expressing their belief--in words--is no different than than going all nasty on people for being anything else they did not choose.

(Like being a terrier.)

1    Notice A&E suspended Dog *temporarily* after racist remarks, and maybe I missed it, but I recall no internet kerfluffle over it.

2    Torches and pitchforks are not good teaching tools.
