A Poem

Thursday, September 8th

(Written with big block letters on parchment paper and pinned dozens of times on every spare surface in the Slytherin common room. Slowly making its way out into the dungeons, eventually into the Entrance Hall and perhaps (!) beyoooond.)

The Ballad of Emilia and Ophelia (in the Shakespearian style)

What ho! a light through yonder dungeon breaks!
Two forms, one darkling and the other white,
Their names, though separate, make no mistake,
Are forever woven into the night!

For dear, sweet, lovely “Emilia” I sing,
Whose moniker lights up the dreary sky.
And wherefore! should I adore it’s ringing?
When mine own I should loveth more, oh aye.

Oh! it is the likeness I adhere to,
So alike, in dignity, yet apart
At the first calm budding of pas-de-deux.
But the endings, oh endings, how you impart!

Endings! being so similar as if
To say “the scaly snakes shall never part”
But will live long gemutlich days. And if
They are parted, rhymes there will be no more!

We stay, and slither away, for we-ah
Are Ophelia and Emilia!

((P.S. Muahahaha))
