I find myself in another precarious situation, job-wise. The first thing you must know is that it's a unionized job. Someone in the department who had a permanent Clerk A position took a temporary B position (better than A). In the meantime, someone else was brought in from god knows where in the department, to fill that position on a temporary basis. So, when the first Clerk A's temporary B job was done, she went back to her permanent A job, bumping the person filling in for HER without a job. Now, since I've been with the City for less time than that person who got bumped, she bumps me! Get the picture? So it's basically a situation where I lose my job, not because I'm doing a bad job, or because there's someone better to do it. I lose my job because she's had a different job for longer than I've had this one. They didn't even interview her. I understand that's how it works, but it's frustrating. I had to go for an interview for this job, it bugs me that she doesn't have to.
The new receptionist (the one who is bumping me) started last Monday. I've been "training" her, even though I never received any proper training, and I haven't even had the job for 2 months. The job is NOT difficult, she didn't need a week of training, but there isn't anything else for me to do. For some reason I'm being kept around for a while. I have no idea how long this bizarre arrangement will continue, as there really isn't anything for me to do. My supervisor has been on vacation for the last three weeks, she should be back tomorrow. I have no idea what will happen when she gets back. She'll be surprised to see me, no doubt. I'm just hoping to hang onto this slack job for as long as possible, cause it's better than NO job, for sure.
