Communities and Friend-Cutting

Jan 20, 2006 22:00

I've removed myself from the hogwarts_rising communities because I just don't find myself involved in any way. I feel like all I do is go in there to vote in new students. I've never really been much of a "joiner". I'm pretty sure I just got caught up in the whole "sorting" thing, more interested in seeing where they'd sort me rather than getting involved.

It's making me wonder about communities, though. I think the first one I joined was harryp_spoilers because the book had just come out and I was happy to have other people to throw theories around with. Not much going on in there these days, but it picks up again with the release of a new book or movie.

Anyway, I'm beginning to have second thoughts about gilmore_girls. It's as if you can't post a comment or response without some of the members in there getting all catty. What's the point of posting a comment in a community if you're just going to crap all over someone who doesn't agree with you about a stupid coat or phone, or actor that's been used as more than one character, etc. I'm fine with people having their own opinions but don't shit all over someone that disagrees.

And WTF is up with people (and by people I mean nantasarion) who complain about hating drama and not wanting to get involved in drama but seem to be at the center of it? I had no clue what lj-drama was until I friended her. I never heard of anyone who'd do a giant friends cut three times in one week because they didn't think they were connecting with the person. I tell ya, by the time she decided to cut everyone left on her friends list I was relieved.

You know, I've noticed that, though...the people who complain most about not wanting drama in their lives seem to be the biggest causes of it.

Update...I feel like I should mention...I did like nantasarion. I found her interesting, and friendly and clever, but way-way-way too sensitive, and very emotional.
I just went back and read this entry and realized that it reads as a total slam on her, which wasn't my intention. My bad.

rant, contemplative, wtf?
