Yeah, yeah, I'm slow on this. I've had this book sitting around my stack of "to read" for years. Literally. It is the hardback first edition version that I snagged from my dad after reading "Angels and Demons" some time ago. I suppose I never picked it up before because I hate hardback books - so unwieldy and heavy to carry in a school bag all day long. Somehow I got through it in one go this evening without having to drag it with me anywhere - this probably explains why I even bothered to pick it up in the first place.
I must say that I liked all of the history of various pagan belief systems, symbols, structures, etc. which makes me want to further research mythology (Joseph Campbell anyone?). But, while it is interesting to see the mish-mash of religion used to create the stepping stones for Christianity I'm still not sure I have much interest in Christianity itself as I am not Christian, nor did I grow up Christian, for which I am still thankful for. Personal opinion. Just never had much of an interest. I can understand, though, why my dad liked this book, because somehow I am wondering if he has a curious fasination with Mary Magdalene.... Hmm. I've seen many books on her roaming around the many, many bookshelves at my parents house. I'd be curious to look into the "truths" that came out of this book because while they sound very accurate it is never good to unquestioningly accept things at face value in fiction. And, really, mythology is always a fun topic.
Ok, I'm yawning and now it is time for bed.
