I left Toronto earlier this morning and have been back in Washington D.C. since this afternoon. Instead of actually doing anything productive I have spent the entire day reading all three Hunger Games books by Suzanne Collins. Luckily for me I'm a speed reader and managed to get all three books finished considering the amount of time on my hands I've had waiting at airports today. I must profess that I do rather like these books. It's sort of like Takami Koushun's Battle Royale meets Scott Westerfeld's Uglies. The amazing thing about these books is that they are labeled Young Adult which is rather mind-boggling for me considering all the horror, anguish and death of main characters. But it is done in such a way that this is not some dumb YA trope and even I couldn't predict all the deaths that happen by the end of the third book. Worth a peek if that's your sort of thing. Makes me quite curious with the new movie coming out....
But yes, Toronto. I spent a lot of time just bumming around with lovely people and was introduced to some fabulous places. I even found a Ten Ren tea shop in Toronto's Chinatown which brought back memories of Melbourne. I went to a boardgame cafe and a pinball cafe and visited the Toronto Greenpeace office. I saw Sherlock Holmes and went to a gothic lolita crepe + hot cocoa outing and stopped into a small goth night called Dracula's Daughter. I also witnessed the aftermath of a train wreck in the suburb I was staying in one day before I had to take public transportation to downtown Toronto. But the good times definitely outweighed the bad.
The Emilie Autumn concert was fun and the VIP was great too. Many photos were taken and some will be posted up in the days to come. There was, of course, good company for all of these events. How could I not have had a good time?!
However, I have work in the morning and only three hours of sleep so I think I'll duck out here for the time being.
