This poem caught my eye and I quite liked it so you get to read it as well.
Lights And Shades
The gloomiest day hath gleams of light,
The darkest wave hath bright foam near it;
And twinkles through the cloudiest night
Some solitary star to cheer it.
The gloomiest soul is not all gloom;
The saddest heart is not all sadness;
And sweetly o'er the darkened doom
There shines some lingering beam of gladness.
Despair is never quite despair;
Nor life, nor death, the future closes;
And round the shadowy brow of care
Will hope and fancy twine their roses.I can't say that I have ever heard of her before but that poem really suits my mindset right now and I feel that I should look up more of her poetry.
A bit about Felicia Hemans: She was an English poet in the early 19th century and her first published poems (when she was only 14!) interested none other than the infamous Percy Bysshe Shelley who briefly corresponded with her and she later found herself regarded highly by some other contemporary poets - namely that of William Wordsworth who composed memorial verses in her honor when she died at age 41. Hmm, I think I need to find some more pretty poems...
So there's my little spark of poetry for the day. I hope you enjoyed.
