Interview #1 down, 2 more to go this week...

I had my Dance/MetroDC interview today.  All in all, I think that it went really well.  The woman who interviewed me, and who would be my boss, was very good-natured.  I was a little nervous, and that came out a little bit. But, she complimented me on some of the things that I said and on the questions I asked.  She's not interviewing too many other people.  The one thing I didn't have was familiarity with the DC dance community. But I was really strong on all the skills needed for the position.  So we'll have to see.  She said that I could expect to hear back by the end of next week.

I also now have an interview for a Development Apprenticeship at The Studio Theatre.  Its the first interview I got through networking.  (Yay for filling in when they really needed someone and guaranteeing that my production manager likes me).  The position is working in the fundraising department.  Which almost every arts management position I've seen requires experience with.  Only down side is that it would be A LOT of work.  (10-6 at this position then 6:30 call for Pillowman) for really not too much money.  And the commitment would be through early August, so if I did this then I would not be able to do the NCTA thing.

I guess I'll need to decide which I want to do eventually.  But for right now, I'm just hoping that one of these works out.  It'd be nice if one of these opportunities was a full-time job, but I know that realistically, with theatre, this is kind of the way things go.  You need to make connections and "pay your dues" as it were.  I'm not really part of the community yet.  I think I need to work on patience as far as my career is concerned.  That was one thing that I think appealed to me about law. 3 years of school, do well, get degree = you have a job.  Theatre is a more round about sort of path I think.  Well,  I've got until next January to decide which I prefer.
