I got my first passport when I was 11 and my grandparents took me to Italy. It was still valid when I went again at 15. Well, now it's lost and expired and I'm leaving for Mexico and Peru in 24 days. I kind of forgot about the whole legally leaving (and getting back into) the country problem.
I went to Kinko's today to have my pictures taken. I walked to the Post Office with about 30 different forms of identification, filled out an application for a passport, and was informed that my valid state-issued ID was not acceptable and I would therefore be required to go to the Licensing Bureau, forfeit my ID, and obtain a new state-issued ID. Well, this made no effing sense to me, so I walked to my mom's office, picked up my Social Security card, and called the Licensing Bureau who told me the Post Office was probably full of shit and to call the Clerk of Courts Office.
I delivered a package for my mom at an attorney's office uptown and since I was close, just walked over to the Clerk of Courts Office anyway. After half an hour of calling every supervisor imaginable, they told me that my ID was perfectly fine, but that I needed two Express Mailing stamps because if I wanted to get the passport back in time it would have to be expedited.
Thus, I walked back to the Post Office and picked up two Express stamps, went to the bank to deposit a paycheck so the checks I was about to write wouldn't bounce, and walked back to the Clerk of Courts Office where they are supposedly sending out my application. He kept my Birth Certificate and that makes me a little nervous.
TOTAL: $199.79, 32 city blocks in sandals, and three hours of my life for a fucking blue book.
Then I walked to the office and filed for the rest of the day.
My feetsies hurt.
The end.
